Angie’s Vision for Our Schools

Students Should Flourish Now and Prosper Later

  • Every student deserves a safe, supportive, and consistent learning environment where they are healthy, valued, and able to thrive—regardless of disability, race, religion, national origin, identity, or zip code.

  • Students must have access to a well-rounded education, including strong academics, diverse and age-appropriate books, arts, athletics, career and technical education, and enrichment opportunities.

  • Literacy is foundational. Every child must learn to read through evidence-based instruction grounded in the science of reading, so students can access all subjects and fully engage in learning.

  • Empowered students learn more. Students deserve agency with creative, challenging, and relevant learning today—not passive preparation for tomorrow.

  • Students must develop strong literacy, critical thinking, life, and citizenship skills to build vibrant communities and a competitive workforce.

  • Graduates should be prepared for college, the military, or an ever-changing workforce.

  • Every graduate should leave school with purpose and real options—pathways to meaningful work, financial independence, and lifelong learning.

Support and Respect Educators

  • Recruit, support, and retain exceptional teachers and staff so every student benefits from strong instruction—especially in early literacy and reading proficiency.

  • Advocate for significantly higher state funding for educator salaries and prioritize people over programs in district budgeting.

  • Ensure educators and staff have affordable benefits by reviewing health plans annually, identifying efficiencies, and using savings to reduce employee costs.

  • Protect academic freedom so teachers can meet students where they are and respond to their needs with professional judgment and joy in teaching.

Engage the Community on Solutions Not Culture Wars

  • Partner with students, families, educators, and the broader community to shape the future of our schools.

  • Focus on real challenges facing public education—not political distractions.

  • Clearly communicate the strengths of public schools and the risks associated with state-mandated policies, including vaccine mandates.

  • Better communicate with our communities in diverse ways and languages so that no student or family feels left out of our public schools.

Innovate with Purpose

Today’s students learn differently—and our school system must evolve and meet them where they are. We must:

  • Thoughtfully integrate innovation to enhance learning and efficiency.

  • Create strong AI policies with safeguards to ensure that student privacy is protected and critical thinking skills are preserved.

  • Plan responsibly for changing demographics and declining birthrates.

  • Lead change with care, clarity, and a focus on student outcomes.

Champion Funding & Fiscal Responsibility

  • Use taxpayer dollars responsibly and strategically aligning funding with student success, educator support, and community values.

  • Address the challenges that face our schools:

    • Taxpayer-funded vouchers and corporations that divert resources from public schools without accountability

    • Chronic underfunding of transportation, safety, programs for English language learners(ESOL) and students with special needs (ESE), arts, athletics, and class-size requirements

    • Rising costs for utilities, construction, health care, and pensions
